CURRICULUM NEWS
As we begin our ninth year of our whole school reform model, Pearson Achievement Solutions formerly known as Co-nect, I am happy to report that we continue to make great strides in instructional planning, teaching, and learning. With the guidance of our model and the work of our dedicated and inspiring teachers, we continue to achieve the New Jersey Core Curriculum Standards and exceed our expectations on our state and district tests. Our visions and goals for the 2008-2009 school year are focused on higher levels of instruction and student learning. Our district has created a comprehensive curriculum in Math, Language Arts, Science and Social Studies that is carefully aligned with the New Jersey State Standards. Also, in School #5 we have implemented research –based strategies such as guided reading for grades K-6 and differentiated instruction to meet the needs of all type of learners. Project-based learning continues to be an effective tool in engaging students in a higher level of thinking. Through project work, students are asked challenging questions that require them to analyze, evaluate, compare, invent, construct and/or generate a hypotheses. We hope to see you at our annual Spring Project Fair, where students’ work is proudly showcased. All students, parents, community members, administrators and teachers will be invited.
Sincerely, Gail Pivirotto School Facilitator |
