May 14, 2008

Dear Parents and/or Guardians,

On Monday, May 19 and Tuesday, May 20, 2008 all students enrolled in a Biology course will be taking the NJ End of Course Exam.  Students involved in this testing have been made aware of this test and have been thoroughly prepared.

This assessment replaces the High School Proficiency Assessment (HSPA) Science test that has been given in previous years.  The New Jersey Department of Education has been focusing on requiring specific courses for all students and implementing assessments of student achievement that are more closely aligned to course content. As a member of the American Diploma Project (ADP), New Jersey is one of 26 states moving towards requiring all high school students to take specific courses in mathematics and science and redesigning high school assessments to include end-of-course tests.

On the test days, students will report to the New Gym by 8:15 a. m.  Testing will start promptly.  It is extremely important that students report to the testing site on time. Also, please make every effort to have your child report to school on those days, absences should only be due to illness or unforeseen dire emergencies.

The state requires a maximum level of security during these types of tests.   Therefore, no student will be permitted in the test site with any type of electronic device.  All books and bags must also be left in their lockers.

Sincerely,

Douglas J. Petrie
