Today’s generation has become seemingly apathetic to the events and issues occurring all around them everyday. We have become obsessed with the superficial things that the media has tried to sell us, but forgotten the real world in the process. Political legislation , including the cutting of state funds to area like Abbott Districts (which includes Garfield), is constantly being put into action while we just stand by and watch our futures be flushed down the drain. The environment is also a main concern, though often ignored. about is on the verge of being scientifically proven responsible for countless illnesses, including asthma and cancer, in Bergen County. Just look at the Ramapo Mountain Area - where a child has to fear for his or her life while playing in their neighborhood, there is a serious problem going unaddressed. This leads to a third major issue which teens and young adults are daily witnesses to but choose to ignore - local violence. No matter what level it occurs on - home, school, on the streets - it is inexcusable. For the first time Garfield High School had a Powder Puff Game where the senior girls played football against the junior girls. It was another successful fund-raiser for the senior class of 2007. It was also a fun get-together for the students. The girls played tag football and were coached by Garfield’s football players and |

coaches. Since most of the cheerleaders were playing in the game, some of the senior guys decided to support them by cheering and entertaining the people in the stands. They wore cheerleading outfits and also did a couple of choreographies. During the last quarter the senior girls scored a touch-down and won the game 2-0! |
