Block 1A: English 4 |
|
May, 2012 Research Papers have been completed, and grades for the project have been posted! I can honestly say I am impressed with the quality of work I received. To round out the year, all my English 4 classes will be reading The Tenth Man by Graham Greene. My plan is to approach the novel as a pleasurable read rather than a mandatory read. Themes such as money and happiness, personal sacrifice, and desperation will be discussed in class. Upon completion of the book, students will be asked to write a final essay regarding information related to the themes mentioned above. The final essay will be presented in a format which is quite similar to what students will see in college. My goal is to have students write a reflection paper applying themes encountered in our readings to the experience of being human.
* Progress reports for the 4th marking period should reach home sometime during the second week of May. Students who have not turned in their research papers should do so as soon as possible!
*Schedules regarding final exams should reach home within the next few weeks. Review sessions in all my English 4 classes will begin immediately upon completion of The Tenth Man.

Block 2B: English 2/American Studies |
|
May, 2012 At this point in time, my English 2/American Studies classes are nearing completion of Edith Wharton's classic novel Ethan Frome. Desperation, unfulfilled dreams, and what it means to be human are just some of the themes we have explored through this work. To round out this unit, students will write a comprehensive essay related to themes presented in the book. They will tie what was read and discussed in class to the human experience as a whole. Upon completion of Ethan Frome, my English 2/American Studies classes will focus on Edgar Allan Poe, the poetry of Emily Dickinson, and poetic elements. Details regarding assessments for this unit, etc. will follow.
* Progress Reports for the 4th marking period should reach home some time during the second week of May. Schedules regarding final exams should also reach home in the near future.
