Class Rules

Students are to come to class on time and in uniform. No electronic devices are to be seen or used during class. Students must arrive prepared with notebooks, books, and writing utensils. No bags or purses are allowed on desks. Failure to follow any of these rules, as well as those outlined in the Student Handbook, will result in some form of corrective action in addition to loss of points in the class participation grade.

Breakdown of Grade

Criteria

Class work and Homework (30%)

All work done in class falls under this category. This can include silent reading, peer editing, group work, journal entries, or looking for information in the text. Homework is also a major part of this section and is usually assigned at least 1-2 days before it is due.

Papers, Tests, and Projects (50%)

All essays, reaction papers, tests, and various projects fall under this category.  Major essays are usually done in 3 drafts ( 1st draft is edited by peers and reworked, 2nd draft is edited by the teacher, 3rd draft is turned in for the final grade.) Tests normally take two full periods to complete and include vocabulary, literary terms, and two 5 paragraph essays.

Class Participation (20%)

It is expected that students participate actively in class, arrive on time and in uniform, and engage in activities planned daily. Failure to comply with class and school rules will negatively affect this portion of the student's grade.
