The English As A Second Language Program of Garfield High School, through a varied curriculum, is seeking to teach the skills in grammar, vocabulary, composition, and reading so that a student may communicate in clear, effective, and organized style. Through testing of student and their subsequent placement in appropriate sections, the program is attempting to help the student think perceptively, develop, discriminating taste and sound judgment in order to achieve personal fulfillment and communicate effectively in today’s complex and competitive society. Varying levels of courses offer maximum opportunity fro-individual growth to students with differing abilities, needs, and interests.
