English 1A Single Year Course (Students must be recommended by former teachers). The purpose of this class is to introduce students to literature from all corners of the globe. Short stories and essays from different authors, geographic areas, and times give the students a unique outlook on the English language. (5 credits)

English  2 A Whole year Sophomore (10th grade) course. Must be recommended by freshman year English teacher. This course covers the major aspects of early English (British) literature. With plays by Shakespeare and many others the students learn of the early influence of the English language and writing style.(5 credits)

Journalism 1/2 YR Half-year elective. No prior prerequisite required. This course is designed to introduce students to the incredible world of journalism. This class takes the responsibility of publishing the Garfield high school newsletter.(2.5 credits)
Speech 1/2 YR Half-year elective. No prior prerequisite required(2.5 credits)
Theatre Arts 1/2 YR Half-year elective. No prior prerequisite required(2.5 credits)
American Studies 1 10-ADV Whole year Sophomore (10th grade) course. No prior prerequisite required. (5 credits)
Creative Writing 1/2 YR Half-year elective. No prior prerequisite required. This is a great introductory course for students that are looking to improve their writing skills.(2.5 credits)
