Basic Skills Program
The
Basic Skills program, available in each public school and in all grades, provides
supplementary instruction in reading, writing, and mathematics to eligible children.
Students are selected on the basis of a standardized test and teacher opinion as a
secondary measure. In the Middle School and High School the program is a regularly
scheduled class and pupils receive credit for taking the classes. The curriculum of the
Basic Skills Program is aligned with the new State standards and students receive
instruction to better prepare them for the State assessments in Grades 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8,
and 11.
Parents will receive a letter home whenever a child is enrolled
in a Basic Skills Program.
Within the private schools in Garfield, students may participate
in supplementary educational programs under the Ch. 192-193 Programs and/or Title I.
