Internal Network Connections (Local Area Networks)

All schools have been wired with at least (6) data drops per classroom.          Each school building has a  fast Ethernet switched Local Area Network    (LAN). All internal wiring within each individual building is Category 5 or Category 6 Cabling with A Fiber optic connection between the building MDF and IDF areas.

External Connection (Wide Area Network)

The district Wide Area Network (WAN) presently connects all schools buildings through a Fiber Optics at ATM speed to the technology center in the high school where there are 4 T1  connections to the Internet

Network Servers

The district uses Microsoft Windows 2000 and 2003 as its Network Operating Systems in the district technology center.   We are currently using Internet Information Server to host the district Web Site as well as the individual school web sites.

Network Clients

There are currently an estimated 1500 clients connecting through the WAN to our technology center.  We have multiple platforms running a variety of different operating systems such as Mac OS  9.0 – 10,   Windows 98, Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows NT 4.0 Workstation. All of these are maintained by a well-trained in house staff.


Technology Education in the Garfield School District begins as early as Preschool. Every classrooms in the district is equipped with at least three computers that have Internet access.   There are state of the art computer labs in every school building throughout the district and Computer Science education begins as early as Kindergarten and continues through grade 12.
