Dear Parent(s) or Guardian(s),

Woodrow Wilson School #5 strives to ensure that all children have a fair and equal opportunity to obtain a high-quality education.  It is our goal that our school produces students that possess excellent critical thinking skills, problem solving and decision making capabilities and are respectful contributing members of an evolving, technological society.

All of our teachers are highly qualified. In addition to the core curriculum subjects, students are exposed to multicultural activities, Music, Art, Computer Lab, and Physical Education. Our school offers services such as, English as a Second Language, Basic Skills Instruction, Speech, Gifted and Talented and Resource Room to address our student’s special needs. The New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards are actively addressed through trimester testing, projects, curriculum alignment, data analysis, grade level meetings, and professional development.

To ensure that our school mission is effectively implemented, students are encouraged to not only excel academically but to also assume their responsibilities as productive citizens to contribute to their community. This is demonstrated through community service projects and fundraising for various non- profit organizations. In addition, membership to the National Elementary Honor Society allows students to further show responsibility by being leaders and offering assistance to their peers and school community. School #5 is an active participant in the Garfield Chamber of Commerce, a committee that is comprised of local businesses. Our school organizations, the Home and School Association, and the No Child Left Behind Committee, work collaboratively to ensure that school goals are met by planning fund raising events and programs, discussing concerns, and sharing ideas. Throughout the school year, parents are invited to participate in their child’s learning by attending Read Across America, Project Fair, Family Math Night, Family Literacy Night, Family Technology Night, Family Science Night, Summer Reading, and Youth Art Shows.

In conclusion, Woodrow Wilson Elementary School #5 has a positive and enthusiastic atmosphere. We are proud of our past achievements, look forward to future accomplishments, and will persistently work towards academic excellence.
