Hello everyone and welcome to School No.8 Art on a Cart web page. My name is Mrs. Nasuta and I have been the art instructor here since 1998.  I believe creative growth is vital to student development and through various art experiences; students will increase critical thinking skills and have an ideal opportunity for self-expression through the use of varied media. Creative self-expression is necessary for emotional strengthening.  It is important for students to achieve personal satisfaction to help build self-confidence.  Art requires self-discipline and accommodates different learning styles, even reaching the alienated and disadvantaged student, therefore art education increases their capability to function socially.

I believe the best vehicle in which to incorporate multicultural education into the curriculum is through art.  The arts readily lend themselves to instruction in multiculturalism. Through the understanding of varied cultures, students develop an appreciation for the diversified world we live in. Throughout observation of artworks (i.e. master, colleagues and self) students will come to appreciate aesthetic values and appreciate the creativity of others and the environment which surrounds us. Multiculturalism is to acquaint the student with some characteristics of traditional arts in regions that were not influenced by European style.  This is a focus area of grades K-3, that will include traditional arts of Pre-Columbian, African, Middle Asia, Asia and Oceanic.  Students will continue to be influenced by cultural studies through the curriculum.

It is the responsibility of the instructor to provide the means for developing an understanding of the elements and principals of art. Throughout the year students will be introduced to the Elements of Art. The Elements (Line, Shape, Color, Form, Value, Texture and Space) will help guide each student through various art projects. We will study various masters as Van Gogh, Picasso, Da Vinci, Monet and Matisse just to name a few. The areas of concentration throughout each grade level are: Drawing, Painting, Crafts, Printmaking and Sculpture.

Children need to be nurtured and should be encouraged on a daily basis to do their best. Everyone is different and everyone expresses themselves in their own way.

"Each child is their own individual artist and they are a Masterpiece in our world."

                                                                            Sincerely,

                                                                            Mrs. Nasuta
