Welcome back to a new school year. As we begin, I would like to remind you of the importance of your involvement in your child's learning experiences in reading. I believe that it is essential, and will help your child attain a higher level of reading success. Today's  students and technologies offer educators many new challenges. But one thing has not changed: Students need to read well to succeed!

I am beginning my 14th year as Reading Specialist at School #8, and it has been my privilege to work with the teachers and students here. During this year, I will support, supplement and extend what the classroom teachers are doing in the classroom, thereby reinforcing usage of reading strategies to promote fluency and comprehension. Students will be assessed and monitored so that extra support may be provided for those students who need it.

OUR STUDENTS WILL BE PARTICIPATING IN THE BOOK-IT! READING INCENTIVE PROGRAM  THIS YEAR TO ENCOURAGE MORE READING INSIDE AND OUTSIDE OF THE CLASSROOM. THE PROGRAM IS EASY AND FUN  AND WILL BEGIN IN OCTOBER AND CONTINUE THROUGH MARCH. MATERIALS AND MORE INFORMATION WILL BE SENT HOME BY THE CLASSROOM TEACHERS AT THE END OF SEPTEMBER.
