Speech Teachers: Mrs Bucco & Mrs. Kearns |
|
Columbus School # 8 is lucky to have two speech teachers. Mrs. Bucco ( ext. 8023 ) services K-3 and Mrs. Kearns ( ext. 8007 ) services grades 3-5. All children come to the speech rooms to receive speech. The Sc-1-4 classes receive services in their classrooms in addition to their group sessions. Mrs. Bucco's room is in the basement and Mrs. Kearns's room is located on the first floor next to the main office. Mrs. Bucco's speech rules are simple. Bring your speech book (which is provided ) and homework to speech class and you receive a sticker. After you collect ten stickers , you can pick a prize from the prize box. Then you can start again for a new prize. Mrs. Kearns also gives the students stickers. They can earn small and large prizes for completed assignments and good behavior. Students are reminded to practice their speech work outside of the classroom.It would be great if an adult could help you practice.
Some of the things your child will work on in speech are: Language: This is the area of speech that includes vocabulary, grammar, comprehension and listening skills.
Articulation: The way in which we say the speech sounds.
Fluency: The flow or rhythm of speech.
Voice: The pitch, quality and loudness of speech. PLEASE NOTE;
|
| By law, you, as the parent or guardian, will be asked to come to a meeting to discuss your child's goals and objectives each year . However, if you have any questions, please feel free to contact us earlier. |
