Microsoft Excel Excel is a software program that allows users to enter and manipulate data. 1. Opening Excel opens a new spreadsheet. 2. The spreadsheet is the basic document in Excel 3. The spreadsheet contains many rectangles, called cells 4. A cell is a field where data is entered. 5. Columns in the spreadsheet are vertical and are identified by letters (A, B,C, D…) 6. Rows in the spreadsheet are horizontal and are identified by numbers (1, 2, 3, 4…) 7. Each cell is identified by the letter at the top of its column and the number to the left of its row (A1, B4, C26...) 8. Formula Bar- is the white long bar at the top after the equal sign 9. Format Cells- Highlight Cells, Format, Cells, Border, Outline, Inside, OK 10. Alphabetize a list- Highlight cells, Data, Sort Ascending 11. Change the size of a cell in three ways 1. Double-click the line between the A and the B 2. Click and hold any line between the letters or numbers of a cell to make it bigger or smaller. 3. Click Format, Rows, Height or Format, Column, Width.
