Kids Heart Challenge
Interview and overview with Laura Smith, PE teacher at school #5.
The Kids Heart Challenge is a special event where students raise money to donate to the American Heart Association. Our donations help children who have heart disease. The money goes towards research and tools to help save the lives of these special children.
This event means so much to me personally because I have heart disease in my family. I look forward to this event every year. It is great being a part of a great cause that helps children in need. It also teaches our students the importance of keeping their hearts healthy. They learn to be kind to others, to try and eat heart healthy food, and to exercise daily.
At our event this year, we all recited our very own pledge and made a promise to try and keep our hearts healthy on a daily basis. Also, each grade level performed their own skill using a jump rope. The students were so excited to do this and they worked so hard in physical education class leading up to this event. It was a huge success! School 5 as a whole donated $1,221.75. To the American Heart Association! We are hoping each year to be able to donate more and more to this great cause!
