Welcome to Garfield School District

Welcome to the Garfield Public Schools website. The Garfield Schools are in partnership with residents, parents, teachers, administrators, and students. The schools and families are working together to provide a successful learning experience for all students.

Administrators and teachers consistently work to update district curriculum and develop programs to remain on the cutting edge of educational issues. Staff development and support are extensive and on-going throughout the school year. Our schools have strong and supportive parent associations and an active educational foundation that enhance the mission of our district. The relationship between the schools and community is excellent and lends to the overall sense that Garfield is a great place to live and work.

The purpose of this site is to provide you with essential information about our schools and inform you on the many diverse programs the district offers to enhance your child’s academic experience. Whether you are looking for school locations, homework assignments, calendars, or testing dates, we hope that you will use this site often and feel free to share your questions, comments, and suggestions with us.

The Mission Statement

The educational community of Garfield believes that the ultimate goal of each school is to provide intellectual experiences within the context of a multi-cultural setting. This environment will enable each student to achieve their maximum potential. Each school shall seek to assist every student in the development of social skills and moral attitudes needed to successfully meet the challenges of a complex, dynamic, and ever changing world. Each school shall continue to cultivate an appreciation of cultural and aesthetic values so that each student can make choices indicative of a knowledgeable and contributing member of a democratic society. To fulfill this role, the district is committed to creating a flexible educational environment addressing the individualities and potentialities of each student. The staff will endeavor to complete the development of a thinking, tolerant person, well prepared to meet the challenges of school and the life they choose to encounter.

v Summer:

We have completed another great school year and summer will be here before you know it. We would like to thank all staff, students and parents for their continued hard work and support. Just a reminder to all students to complete their summer reading. Summer reading packets are located on this page under Important Links. You can also find links on your child's school website.

Students in grades 1-4 will be participating in the Study Island Summer Program. Students are asked to complete Math and Language Arts assignments to earn a reward at the beginning of the school year. The Study Island Packet is located under Important Links on this page as well as your child's school website.

vGarfield Schools Go Green:

Garfield Schools is promoting "Going Green" by utilizing Parent Portal for all grades, progress reports and report cards. Our new Parent Portal system allows parents to view their child's academic history via the Internet. Parents were given their username and  password to access their child's portal. Not only is Parent Portal good for the environment but allows parents to have constant feedback with how their child is doing in school.  Let us know what you think about using Parent Portal to access report cards.

v Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights:

Beginning September 2011, the Garfield School District will be implementing all procedures required by State Law on Harassment, Intimidation, and Bullying.  The Garfield School District prohibits all acts of harassment, intimidation, and bullying of any pupil or other person. Learn about the Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights Act.
