THE PLAN DEVELOPMENT

AS PER THE ORDER FROM GOVERNOR MURPHY, SCHOOL DISTRICTS WILL OPEN IN SOME CAPACITY FOR IN PERSON INSTRUCTION AND OPERATIONS IN THE FALL. THE REOPENING OF SCHOOL WILL INCLUDE THE NECESSARY LIMITATIONS TO PROTECT THE HEALTH AND SAFETY OF OUR STUDENTS AND STAFF.

Our plan for reopening Garfield Public Schools prioritizes the safe return of all students and staff. We have designed a plan that implements the required guidelines provided by the New Jersey Department of Education, as detailed in the document, “THE ROAD BACK, RESTART AND RECOVERY PLAN FOR EDUCATION”.

Our District Restart Team met regularly to provide input on how the plan to return to school would reflect the needs of our students and families in Garfield.  This team was comprised of the Superintendent, administrators, nursing supervisor, district physician, teachers, parents, students, and Board of Education members.  There were also several subcommittees that worked diligently to contribute to this plan and information was exchanged between all groups on a continuous basis until the final document was completed.

The health, safety, and well-being of our students and staff has always been our priority, however, the Covid-19 pandemic has emphasized the importance of strong communication and the need to strictly adhere to the established protocols.

We are addressing every aspect of our operations to comply with all recommendations in The Road Back document and have submitted our plan to the Department of Education for review and approval.   Once it is approved, we can share the entire document with our school community.  In the meantime, we are providing this information which summarizes the most important components of our plan to give our parents, staff, students, and community insight into the way schools will be operating in the Fall.

As we have all witnessed over the course of the last five months, things change very quickly with this pandemic; therefore our plan is split into phases, which will allow us to re-evaluate the plan based on a better understanding of current data. Phase one will take place from September 8th to October 16th.   As things continue to evolve, the plans will be updated, and you will be informed of all changes, revisions, and modifications in a timely manner.
